In Carpe Diem #423, Kristjaan told us about Sankaku-ji, located in Shikokuchuo. Shikokuchuo is known for its paper products and its autumn drum festival. While looking for a suitable drum image for inspiration, I discovered this taiko – Japanese ensemble drum – created from a single piece of a 1200 year old tree. It’s a shame to see an ancient tree fall – but the drum makers have honored this tree by using it to create such a magnificent instrument.
