This haiku is written for Carpe Diem Haiku Kai; #71. Our task was to write a haiku based on Alexey Andreyev’s haiku, “Empty Swing”.
summer evening – /
empty swing swaying slightly /
forward … back … //
When I went to Wikipedia to find a photo of an empty swing in summer, I found the photo of the empty winter swing and couldn’t resist using it. Dratted polar vortex! This week it would take a tornado to have an “empty swing swaying slightly”.
Weather in the USA is very weird though – the USA has had horrible tornadoes in January. If we were to be hit with an intense blast of warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico now, the results could be tragic. For example, a January 29-30, 2013 outbreak caused 65 tornadoes (Southern and Midwestern USA). Believe it or not, two outbreaks occurred on New Year’s Eve (1947 and 2010); both were deadly.
I don’t like these temperature extremes; let’s hope we have a calm winter!
And now … I’ve gone completely off track … from “swing swaying slightly” to “January F4 tornado”!
If I retype my poem can I reclaim the mood? ;)
