The Lovin’ Spoonful: Summer in the City (1966)
I ran into this Lovin’ Spoonful song today –in the opening moments of an action movie. I LOVE this song!
Lately I’ve been writing a lot of nature poetry – which is wonderful! – but it would be nice to change gears for one day. This song provides the perfect opportunity.
Summer. In the City.
We had another winter storm last night in the Eastern USA– sudden snow squalls with slick roads that froze into black ice. Ah, for the good old days of summer – muggy, mosquito-infested and miserable – when we’ll be cranky and irritable and thinking fondly of these cold, icy winter days.
Here’s another great summer video, direct from the “great sound, frightening hair” vault.
Mungo Jerry: In the Summertime (1970)
This poem was also inspired by Dverse: Poetics – On the Other Hand. In the winter we think fondly of the summer. And vice versa.
Unfortunately I’m too late to add my link to the collection, but please visit “Mister Linky” where you’ll find a lot of great writing.
Kinks: Sunny Afternoon (1966)
This is how I feel writing about the summer … when it’s snowing outside.
